App icon dimensions depend on where the image appears. Start with the platform's source artwork, then distinguish Xcode's iOS asset catalog, Android launcher resources and the separate Google Play listing icon.
Apple app icon dimensions for iOS
For a current iOS or iPadOS asset catalog, Xcode can derive smaller icon variations from a single 1024 × 1024 px source. The familiar home-screen sizes below are useful preview targets, not a requirement to upload each PNG to a new project.
1024 × 1024 px universal source
Our ZIP puts one 1024 px PNG and Contents.json in AppIcon.appiconset. Xcode can generate smaller variants. This export does not include separate dark or tinted icon artwork.
Check small-size readability
Examples include 180 × 180 px on an iPhone home screen, 152 × 152 px on iPad, and 167 × 167 px on iPad Pro. Preview the symbol at these sizes even when Xcode generates them.

Android app icon sizes: legacy and adaptive layers
Android launcher resources use density-specific bitmaps. The table shows the legacy PNG size and the size of each adaptive foreground/background layer generated by this tool at the same density.

Adaptive artwork is based on 108 × 108 dp layers. Keep the main symbol within the centered 66 × 66 dp safe area so device masks do not crop it. Our adaptive ZIP also includes mipmap-anydpi-v26 XML and legacy fallback PNGs.

Google Play icon size is separate from the launcher
The Play Store listing uses a 512 × 512 px, 32-bit PNG in sRGB, with a maximum file size of 1024 KB. Supply a full square image; Google Play applies its own mask and shadow.
Our ZIP includes play_store_512.png. Export checks its 512 px dimensions, 32-bit RGBA format and 1024 KB limit, and tags the sRGB canvas output. Check the final file in Play Console before submission.

What about macOS and watchOS?
Our optional macOS export contains a traditional AppIcon.iconset of PNG sizes. The watchOS ZIP contains an unmasked 1024 px watchOS asset catalog source and separate size references. Apple's current icon guidance also describes layered Icon Composer artwork, including a 1088 × 1088 px watchOS layout. Do not assume these optional ZIP folders satisfy every current appearance or submission requirement without checking them in Xcode.
App icon size FAQs
Do I need every iOS size as a separate file?
Often no. A current Xcode asset catalog can derive iOS and iPadOS variations from a single 1024 px image. Use separate assets only if your project or design needs them.
Why are Android adaptive layers larger than legacy PNGs?
The 108 dp layer includes outer room for launcher masks and visual effects; the central 66 dp area keeps the main symbol visible. Legacy bitmaps use a 48 dp base size.
Can I upload the 512 px Play icon as my Android launcher icon?
Treat them as different assets. The Play icon is a store-listing PNG; the app launcher uses density resources and, on supported Android versions, adaptive layers.

For this tool’s standard iOS asset-catalog export, start with a square 1024 × 1024 px source. The ZIP contains AppIcon.appiconset and Contents.json. Point sizes and pixel sizes differ; check your Xcode target and use Apple’s current guidance for dark, tinted or layered appearances.
