Android adaptive icon resources

The ZIP contains an Android/res folder you can copy into src/main/res. Adaptive mode also includes legacy launcher PNGs for older Android versions.

Foreground layer

A transparent 108dp layer at each density, with your source artwork centered. A transparent logo gives the cleanest result.

Background layer

Choose a solid color or upload a background image. A separate full-bleed PNG is generated at each density.

Adaptive XML

mipmap-anydpi-v26/ic_launcher.xml references both layers; legacy bitmaps remain available below API 26.

Android defines 108 × 108 dp layers and a centered 66 × 66 dp reference area. Keep the main motif within it, compare masks and test the installed app. The Google Play image is a separate 512 × 512 px PNG.

How to Create Android App Icons

Step 1: Upload Your Logo

Drag and drop your high-resolution logo (1024x1024 recommended) into the generator. We support PNG, JPG, and SVG formats.

Step 2: Customize Layers

Android Adaptive Icons consist of two layers:

  • Foreground: Your logo or main symbol. You can scale it while checking the safe-zone preview.
  • Background: Choose a solid color or upload a background image/texture.

Step 3: Download Resources

Click "Download" to get a ZIP file containing the standard res directory structure, ready to be dropped into your Android Studio project.

What is an Adaptive Icon?

Introduced in Android 8.0 (Oreo), adaptive icons can display a variety of shapes across different device models. They are composed of two layers: a foreground and a background.

What sizes are included in the download?

The ZIP includes legacy launcher PNGs at mdpi (48x48), hdpi (72x72), xhdpi (96x96), xxhdpi (144x144) and xxxhdpi (192x192), plus a 512x512 Play Store PNG. Adaptive mode also includes 108dp foreground/background layers at each density and XML.

Android launcher icons use separate layers and density-specific resources. Keep the focal symbol inside the safe area, then check the generated XML references and the installed icon. A Google Play listing image is a separate export.
